Bluewater Performance in Performance VW

Watch out everyone! This coming November our very own VW Turbo R32 will have an article in your favorite magazine, Performance VW. PVW contacted us with great enthusiasm about our trip to The Bonneville Salt Flats this past September. We agreed to be interviewed about the trip. They also wanted to know about our dubs set up, why we choose to do the salt flats, and about Bluewater Performance. We are very excited about the feature to come out and to have one of our cars in the magazine. So keep an eye out for next months Performance VW!

Bluewater Performance invited to the 2010 Eurotuner GP

Every year one of your favorite European car magazines, Eurotuner, puts on their very own Grand Prix. They invite only the best of the best of the euro tuners to battle it out on a series of events. These series of events include a day on the dyno, a sprint on the strip, and an apex in the turns. Although the Eurotuner GP isn't a head to head competition because not every car is the same, it is a battle against the products and packages to see if it meets your specific needs and wants. As far as the events, the first day consists of racking the numbers up on the dyno. Each team is allowed 3 pulls to get the best overall numbers. The second day is day to test these high horse power numbers on the quarter-mile drag strip. Each team is allowed as many runs as they can fit in a 3 hour time period. The final day is the day to push these monsters into the turns, the fastest lap competition. Teams are split up into groups to level the field and are set out for 20 minutes at a time to try and capture their fastest lap time. This year we are proud to say our very own Gabe Adams has been invited with his monster VW Turbo R32 to compete in the Eurotuner Grand Prix. In Preparation for the event we did a few more modifications to the car to better the handling on the road course. These consist of Corner Balancing the car, installing H&R RSS Cup Coilovers, and H2 Sport control arm bushings. For the results we can only wait and see.

VW 2.5L Timing Chain Problems

With more and more 2.5L engines approaching 60k to 80k we are starting to see a trend with timing chain issues. The top timing chain seems to be the only one with an issue it is stretching on 2005.5-2007 cars including the Jetta, and Rabbit. We have seen this repair be quoted anywhere from $1000 all the way up to $3000 at the dealerships depending if they are quoting just the upper or the upper and lower chains. We recently had an 2006 VW Jetta 2.5L in our shop and decided to take another approach. We swapped out his current engine with the timing chain issue for a later model 2.5L with only 30k miles on it and all for less than what the dealer had quoted him for replacing the chains. We wanted to post some pics of the swap to show how much work was involved and the end result.
